A Gujarati woman is married to a small time businessman in Mumbai who is incapable of adult sex. To find an answer for her carnal desires, she ends up having a relationship with the family guru, a man called Amarkant Maharaj, who is arrested later on a rape charge levelled by another married woman.
Caught in a bad marriage and struggling to find respect, love and dignity, Meera ends up becoming a victim of her own body, and halfway through the novel, when her mother says, ‘never be scared of your own desires’, her pursuit finds a new impetus, as slowly, without her knowing, her desire to be loved finally turns her into an object to be used only for sex.
The plot is good and so is the writing. I found the erotic potions forced though, as if stretched on an afterthought. I also found the incestuous relationship of Meera with her twin brother despicable.
